I keep reading on forums people complaining about not getting their dream jobs soon after arriving in Australia. And some people are very vocal about the Government’s position, as their policy is aiding migrants to come to Australia.
Please remember that the Government is letting you come here based on the skills you possess in the hope that you are a highly skilled migrant and you will be able to settle down. They are NOT promising any job when they grant you Australian PR. You will always find people who forcefully defend their opinions and they are right in their own sense because that’s THEIR opinion.
But the picture is not that gloomy or rosy. If you are qualified, positive and smart, then your hard work will definitely pay-off. I will not say it’s a walk in the park, on the contrary, prepared to fight it out in the beginning. And that’s why I say you need to be smart – that’s the most important thing if you are not “networked” in Australia for job hunting. You should be alert and agile so that you can change your plan quickly if you see it’s not working or if you notice someone’s plan which worked.
Start researching your field of jobs while you are still in your home country and start applying when you are scheduled to land within 1-2 weeks in Australia. Come prepared for the worst, not for success – so that you do not give up after your initial failures. Soon, you will find what’s going to work for you if you are smart!
My recommendation : come with savings enough for you to survive for at least 6-12 months and do not hesitate to take any job you get with fully focussed on your dream job.
And be in touch with people who have successfully gotten jobs in their fields – believe me there are many (just do Google search search – they are real people). For every unsuccessful migrant story there are hundreds of successful stories as well. It is in the interest of Australia for you to be successful!
