Best decision of my life!

We are living in very uncertain times right now with Donald J. Trump as President-elect of USA. His recent appointments indicate that he is serious when he talks about immigration restrictions. This can be really frustrating for those migrants who have not yet received their Green Cards (GC).

The wait for GC is very long for us Indians. It is a scary feeling that we might be shown the door after investing all our life in USA when Senator Sessions takes over as Attorney General of USA. All he has to do is to tweak some regulations as he knows very well how to get things done in the US political system being there. And those of us who are legal migrants in USA are well aware that he is a fierce opponent of H1b and will leave no stone unturned to make the lives of migrants difficult.

What can we do right now- nothing? No there are options and I will discuss them later. Indians who are waiting in USA for their GCs are in panic mode, and they have started blaming other visa categories for their long wait, which in most cases can be decades long! This is a natural reaction but I do not know if this is going to benefit anyone except migration opponents like Sessions, who is already in battle mode.  Legal preparations are underway for launching ‘surgical attack’ on H1 b among other things, which will be declared as soon as Trump becomes President on Jan 20, 2017.  Donald Trump said on 10th December that he won’t allow H1b holders to replace USA workers.

I am not saying that his intention to save USA workers jobs is not right, as this should be the priority of every nation. I also do not want to discuss other aspects related to that today. But yes, it has definitely put legal temporary migrants’ dreams of getting a US GC in jeopardy. This is specially bad for those who have been in USA for many years and have invested their lives in their pursuit of the American dream.

So, that brings us to the most important question: what should we do now? Time to take one of the hardest decisions of  your lives is here because even though you made the best decision possible when you migrated to USA with the information you had at the time, you’ll still have to reconsider your choices from time to time, because life is all about change.

The greatest option available at this time in my opinion is to get an Australian Permanent Residency (PR- Australian equivalent of USA Green Card) now before it becomes ‘difficult’ here too. It is one of the best countries to raise your kids, enjoy a laid-back lifestyle and hence, live happier and live longer! It is a must read for all those doubting Thomases who do not want to give Australia (read 12 reasons to choose Australia) a chance. Why? Because it is written by an American immigrant who is happily settled in Australia, so you can be sure that he is providing you very insightful analysis of comparing life in Australia and in USA.

It reinforces my belief that I made the best decision of my life to migrate to Australia  after living for 7 years in USA on H1b visa. I have been saying that in my past blogs and many people have found those readings as eye-opener. What are you waiting for? Contact us immediately for a free assessment of your case because tomorrow can be fabulous!

The Australian PR process is very clearly defined and is based on points system for Skilled Independent Visa, so there is no ambiguity there. The process is very smooth and you DO NOT NEED employer to get the PR (189 visa). It is a very quick process – it took me 18 days after I applied for my visa to get the approval. Yes, you read it right – 18 days!! But that is ONLY if your application is decision ready. It means that you have fulfilled all the formalities required. It took me approximately 3 months for this whole process. But, remember, every case is different. And I do not guarantee any timeline nor do I guarantee the visa outcome – no one can!

Ajeet lived in USA for seven years before deciding to move to Australia in 2014. He is originally from India and loves to travel and see the world. Having migrated twice (till now!), he knows that this process is full of anxieties and apprehensions but the allurement of distant land is fascinating. Passionate about helping potential migrants and save them from unscrupulous agents , he started his migration firm in 2016. When Ajeet is not working on his cases, he loves to share information on his blog about Australia (and more!) and loves to play/watch cricket. Ajeet is a registered MARA agent by profession but the intent of this blog is not to provide any advice. The blog is general in nature and does not constitute personal advice and neither reflects the view of his employer. The purpose is to provide free and valuable information to start a meaningful conversation to help prospective migrants in making the biggest decision of their lives.
